What’s Written on This Nopon Monado in Xenoblade X?

Darien sent in a quick question about the recently-released Xenoblade X – let’s take a look:

Some years back, I asked you about the symbols displayed on the Monado in Xenoblade Chronicles. Well, in Xenoblade Chronicles X, there’s a side-quest involving a “Nopon Sword of Legendariness” that’s obviously a goof on the Monado, complete with symbol. Is this one also Japanese? If so: wossit mean?

Thanks as always!

First, in case you missed it, here is where I looked at the meanings of the different Monado symbols in the first Xenoblade game.

Now here’s an image of the Xenoblade X item in question:

What the heck I've been playing the Japanese version forever and haven't gotten to this yet

This one’s pretty simple – the symbol appears to be a (seen in reverse in the image above), which is “po”. I assume it’s the “po” in Nopon.

There’s probably not much more to it than that, but I thought I’d share it here as a simple little article for fellow Xenoblade fans!

On a separate note, updates have been a bit sparse lately, but fret not! I’ve been working on some posts for recent in-depth reader questions, so look forward to those in the near future!

If you found this article interesting or helpful and know any other fans of Xeno, let them know about this article. It's a great way to help support Legends of Localization!

  1. Just pointing out the typo on “meanings” right after the quote. : )

    1. Thanks! That’ll learn me to post stuff before previewing it first 😛

  2. There is a manga with that symbol in the title, and it’s written as “bo” instead of “po” in the English version. Is the difference due to a different choice of romanisation system?

    1. The difference is in the little mark at the corner. ボ is bo and ポ is po.

      Wikipedia has more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakuten

      1. Ahh, completely missed that. Thanks for the info

  3. Finally, a new update! Well, it’s not that interesting of an update but it’s an update nonhetless. Hopefully you might tackle something from Splatoon next…

  4. Wait,in Xenoblade Chronicles, when a species symbol appears on the Monado, that means the Monado can kill that specific species.
