This is Part 12 of my project to document the poor text translations in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment
. For project more details and to start from the very beginning, see here
For some reason, many of the scenes during this stream wound up a tad bit more NSFW than normal. It’s nothing terrible, but just thought I’d give a heads-up in case your coworkers enjoy boob talk.
"The shop of good food before..."
Penetration count +1
Some problems in this game's translation are just simple editing mistakes, but we can also clearly see that some of the original translators didn't have a good grasp of proper English
From the context, I'm guessing "inconsistent" or "contradictory" was intended here
This whole scene was very uncomfortable, but I learned all the stops to making a baby now
"It's been a while for me to climb a tree."
The Japanese language usually uses the English word "hip" to refer to the buttocks. There are times when it does mean "hip", but generally in entertainment it's almost always meant as "butt". Here's a good example, courtesy of an unhip translator
For some reason, the word "cloth" and "clothes" all just become "clothe" in the translation around this point
"Before the clothe is dried"
In Japanese, the phrase "dakara" generally means "because", which is why this line is "Therefore". But in contexts like this, it's actually more like "Look, I've been trying to tell you" or "Seriously, listen to me!" or something along those same lines. Basically, it's a way of repeating/pointing at something you just said, usually in an argumentative way. This is another common mistake among inexperienced translators and/or translators who lack support from their team/manager
I have no idea what this is saying. My best guess is that "starring" was meant to be "starting"? But the whole line still sounds terrible that way
Now this is a common mistake even among regular, native-level English speakers. "Who's" should be "whose"
"Who will you chose?"
"There's no need to chose"
When your translator doesn't even know the word "his", you know you're in trouble
"I'll get squashed if it rids on me"
"So when the Pina here rid on my shoulder I was so happy"
"You'll feel nostalgic" is an actual mistranslation here. She actually says natsuku, which is something like "become fond of/become attached to". But the translator mistook it for natsukashii ("nostalgic")
The "ones" instead of "once" monster strikes ones again
"Conceled Research Prison"
A great example of "It can't be helped!"
Also, I don't even know what that second line is trying to say...
"Huge me...... Hummm!"
"you have to remove your clothe and on into the lake"
"Remove our clothe......"
Another "it can't be helped"
Immediately followed by another
"I want to put my clothe on fast to look the other way!"
I like the feel of the word "angery"
At least this "Wivern" isn't as bad as this one
It's kinda like Lemmings in this area: there are Ant Diggers, Ant Breakers, Ant Drivers... and Ant Garders?
"for the sake of penetration"
It's another "ones" instead of "once"! I swear someone just did a find-and-replace-all at some point. It reminds me a lot of this
Gotta roll those Rs!
"Talking about the devil..."
